Pastoral Care
Within The John Wallis Church of England Academy, there is a very strong support network in place to address the varying needs of the students.
Lower School
The Lower School phase in the Academy has a very experienced team where pastoral care is at the heart of the Christian ethos of the Academy. We are working closely with parents and pupils, building relationships from the moment that the pupils join the Academy to prepare them for their journey from Early Years right through to Sixth Form.
Middle and Upper School
Tutor
At The John Wallis Church of England Academy, we are committed to providing a supportive and nurturing environment where every student can thrive both academically and personally. Central to this approach is our dedicated tutor system.
Dedicated Tutor System
Each pupil is assigned a dedicated tutor who plays a crucial role in their daily school life. Our tutor system ensures that every pupil is known, supported, and guided throughout their school journey.
Morning Tutor Time
The day begins with a morning check-in with their tutor, ensuring pupils are fully prepared and ready to learn.
This includes:
Uniform Check: Ensuring all pupils are dressed appropriately, fostering pride and discipline.
Equipment Check: Making sure pupils have everything they need for a successful day of learning.
This structured start to the day helps establish good habits, promotes responsibility, and ensures that any concerns can be addressed before lessons begin.
Afternoon Tutor Time
In the afternoon, pupils reconvene with their tutor to reflect on the day and participate in enriching activities. A key focus during this time is on Collective Worship, The Big Debate and Reading.
These sessions allow pupils to:
Engage in collective worship: Promoting spiritual and moral reflection, open to pupils of all faiths and backgrounds.
The Big Debate: Weekly discussions on important moral and societal issues, encouraging critical thinking, empathy, and respectful debate.
Reading Focus: We dedicate time to fostering a love of reading, as literacy is key to every pupil’s academic success.
