My name is Mr Hubbard; I am a Teacher of Mathematics for Years 7 – 13. I have been at the Academy since September 2018.
I am passionate about learning new experiences; I enjoy cooking, reading, exercising and playing a variety of different types of games! Some of my favourite games are Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit and Chess. When I was in Year 7, I competed in the UK Chess Challenge where I was the School Champion and managed to advance to the Giga Final. This was an enriching experience and, as such, I wish to support and promote chess in schools. I hope that one day we shall have students competing in the UK Chess Challenge as well.
During my time at the Academy, I have set up and continue to run Ultimate Frisbee Club. We have had students from a range of year groups expressing interest in the Club. It is a sport that I played while at University, and I wish to help increase the popularity and awareness of the sport at school level.
I believe that you can never fully achieve excellence, as it is a never-ending journey. You can always do better than you have previously done, excellence is a force within, and that makes you want to push yourself further and do better each day.
I interpret the statement ‘that we are committed to excellence’, to mean that we are always moving one-step closer to excellence by being better than we were before.
The best thing about The John Wallis Academy is our young people! Everyone has their own story to tell, it is great to hear how our students spend their time both inside and outside of the Academy. They also teach us new things, for example, one of our Arabic students has taught me to how to say hello: ‘Marhaba’!
Safe to say, it is a work in progress! But each day is a learning day!
